Readings

Readings are the data obtained from meters located in a facility. When meters are associated with an asset or space, they record various readings of the particular asset or space. The readings in turn can be used to calculate the required metrics corresponding to the facility. For example, they capture the temperature, humidity, and other data which are essential for determining the energy consumption cost for the asset or space.

Appropriate expressions must be built to derive the necessary values out of the readings captured. Effectively analyzing the metric values thus drawn can help the facility managers optimize the overall operation cost of the facility.

Purpose of Readings

Readings can be recorded for various reasons including, but not limited to: Computing usage of assets and space for maintenance.

Overview

Facilio allows the administrators to configure readings for the assets, sites, buildings, floors, and spaces. If a reading recorded for any component exceeds the threshold, an alarm denoting the severity of the fault can be triggered to notify facility managers of the required action item.

Applications of Readings

Readings associated with assets, and space, and can be used to drive condition monitoring and preventive maintenance processes. The upcoming sections explain the role of readings in handling these activities.

Readings are used in the following Facilio modules: Portfolio (Site, Building, and Space), Assets, Diagnostics, KPI, M & V (Measurement and Verification).

Types of Readings

The reading type is the data type of the possible values and allowed operations. It is mandatory to define the reading type while creating a meter. You can choose from the following reading types.

Managing Readings

The facility managers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the building. To do that, they rely on data in the form of readings. The Readings module helps fetching the weather readings and allows configuring the asset and space category readings.

Accessing Readings

The readings configured in this module are mapped to the summary sections of the site, building, space, and asset. This section illustrates how to view the configured readings in the Asset module.

Identifying Safety Risks

As a result of configuring safe limits, you can identify the instances of a datapoint crossing the bounded value. When the safe limit is configured for a reading, a safety line appears on the chart (in the Analytics module) with reference to the reading as shown below.

Summary

Upon actively monitoring the meter readings, you can identify opportunities to continuously optimize the energy consumption of the assets in a building. The meter readings from all the assets can be compared and analyzed to conclude on the performance of the assets.
